Wake Forest Farmers Market
The market has run since 1998, according to its website, and sets up on Saturdays year-round in all weather along South Taylor Street, behind the Wake Forest Town Hall, the town’s market page says. It moved there in 2019 after starting in the depot parking lot on South White Street.
- Hours: 8 a.m. to noon from April through October; 9 a.m. to noon from November through March. The winter schedule starts Saturday, Nov. 7.
- What you will find: produce, pasture-raised beef, poultry and pork, eggs, herbs, honey, jams, cut flowers, plants and baked goods. Vendors must make what they sell and operate within 75 miles of the market, the town says.
- Who runs it: a nonprofit owned and run by its vendors. Current vendors listed on its site include farms such as Many Hands Farm, Brogden Farm and Turtle Mist Farm, plus potters, woodworkers and the Master Gardeners.
- SNAP: accepted.
- Parking: downtown lots and street parking; see our getting around guide for the town’s downtown parking rules.
NCFST Mobile Market
The town’s Northern Community Food Security Team works with Ripe for Revival, which turns retired buses into refrigerated mobile grocery stores, to run a pay-what-you-can market, the town’s mobile market page says.
- When: usually 3 to 4:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays, rain or shine. In November and December it switches to the first and third Thursdays: Nov. 5 and 19 and Dec. 3 and 17.
- Where: along South Brooks Street, across from the Northern Regional Center, 350 E. Holding Ave.
- How it works: items carry suggested prices, which the town says average about 25% below grocery store prices. At the register, shoppers pay the full total, part of it or nothing. There are limits on meat, dairy and eggs but none on produce. Open to everyone.
