Why July 3?

The volunteer Fourth of July Planning Committee started the fireworks in the early 1970s, when Wake Forest had just over 3,000 people, and set them for July 3 to avoid competing with larger shows in neighboring towns, the town explains on its event page. The schedule lets families see Wake Forest’s show and another one on July 4.

Fireworks at home

Most consumer fireworks are illegal in North Carolina: anything that explodes, spins, flies or leaves the ground, including firecrackers, ground spinners, Roman candles, bottle rockets and mortars, town police and fire officials said before the 2026 holiday. Fireworks sold legally in South Carolina can still be illegal here. A violation is a Class 2 misdemeanor. Sparklers, toy caps, snakes and similar novelties are legal.

What this means for you

  • Plan for July 3, not July 4.
  • Arrive early and carpool; parking is first come, first served.
  • Check back in June 2027 for this year’s band, times and map.
